Short Story
The summer heat clamped my body down to the melting asphalt. Sweat poured out of my face from every pore. When the droplets hit the ground they boiled away. I could not move. Through my head ran the thoughts of the day. My homework mostly on my mind. Each time it ran around my skull there was an increase of pain.
I fingered my pockets looking for something to release me from my predicament. In my left pocket I found the two things most dear to me. My blue mechanical pencil and my Pentel click eraser. When I looked into my right pocket I found the one thing that I despised. My pocket watch! The keeper of time. Time being my worst enemy. If only its hands would run straight instead of in a circle.
A circle has no beginning or end, so eventually it will turn on itself. Lashing out angrily against itself as it takes another turn. Oh, how I hate this concept called time. It will eventually end, never continue on. When it becomes so enraged with making the endless loop in a twelve hour cycle that it refuses to go on.
The summer heat was not holding me down. It was my fear of time, holding me in place.
